From memory dad talked about faces where the jaw had slid along the road and partially wore away while also broken jaw. One guy had no jaw left and he used bone from the rest of his body to make a jaw. Dad still talks about how well the joint works based on some technique he used.

I remember being hit by a car on my pushbike, learner driver waved though a stop sign by another car that had right of way. I assumed I was protected by the car that had right of way. Slow speed probably 10kph but still hurt. I landed on my head three times cracking the helmet in three places and then on my face. The doctor at the hospital was explaining to some students that while I had lost some skin I had lost just enough jaw bone that the skin could be stretched. For a few years I remember when talking of eating the scar that had formed over the missing bit of jaw would pop in and out of the groove in my chin until the skin stretched more and the scar tissue softened.
