Rev counter is probably a simple electrical connection problem. Had the same on my '76 once.
Check the fuel lines for fuel filter (should be under the bonnet close to bulkhead), might be time to replace it.
Also, as you are "piling on the miles" since collection keep an eye on coolant temp and level. My water pump failed after a thousand miles or so due to lack of use by previous owner.


Yes - the rev counter dial illumination wasn't working either, so I imagine it's an earth that's worked lose or something similar.

The carb, fuel pump, lines and filter are new - done less than 500 miles (400 by me!) but I imagine there may be a bit of sediment in the tank that's being dragged through. I'll keep an eye on the filter.

Will also keep an eye on the water. I tend to spend my time glued to the dials at the moment but everything seems to be running OK (at the moment!)
