As I cycle around the narrow leafy lanes of my new Suffolk home, gradually increasing my mileage and speed on each journey as I build up my bike-fitness again after being distracted for a while by the moving and settling-in activity, I'll often have cars come up behind me so simply pull over when appropriate and safe to do so. If it's a tractor I'll pull onto a verge if it's safe. I always get a friendly wave from the motorists involved (with the exception of one miserable looking bus driver the other day for whom I have pulled over well before he reached me!). When I'm in the car I'll hold back and wait for a safe place to overtake any cyclists I come across. It's easy and stress free and I can carry on and enjoy my drive as before. It's all good old common sense and courtesy. Yes, I'm sure there are some belligerent cyclists out there as there are many aggressive and simply bad motorists - I just refuse to let them spoil my life or annoy me. Life really is too short for that.
